The Good Ol' Days...or not?

We have all read about the pioneers and their travels from the east to the west. All the hardships they faced, broken wagon wheels, horses that died, Indian raids, buffalo stampedes, no water, hot, dry deserts, long, cold winters, I could go on and on. I am so thankful they had the courage, stamina, and will to survive these conditions and pave the way for us.
However, I am also quite thankful I was not one of them! I am so very thankful for modern conveniences. It is fun to make food from scratch, sew clothes at my convenience (not because I have to), dress up on Old Fashioned Sunday and imagine what it would be like. Well, my friends, reality...it wasn't as romantic as Louis L'Amour portrays! Oh yes, I have read his books and honestly, I love them. But they're fiction! Yes, he weaves in true stories but really those people had a hard life. Is it any wonder the average lifespan was to about 45? I would have probably lasted until I was 5!
Today I am thankful for my car (yes! no wagons or horses), running water and great INDOOR plumbing, my washer and dryer, my dishwasher, my stove that I just turn a knob and wah-la, there's fire, my computer (how would I function?), and so many other wonderful modern conveniences!

We ride horses for fun! (not because we have to).
