An anniversary, a birthday and a birth defect??
You are probably wondering what that is all about. Right?? Well, on Wednesday, Ashley came running into the house crying, not screaming, just crying. She had tripped over Zoey's (our dog) leash and scraped her arm. Not a big deal, no blood. However, on closer examination, I noticed a lump on her elbow, as if her arm was out of socket. Strange, I never noticed that before and she wasn't screaming out in pain. So, being the worrisome mom that I am, I called the doctor. Of course they said bring her in. So off to Kaiser we go, first to be seen by a doctor(who wasn't even going to do an x-ray until I persisted), then to Radiology for x-rays, back to the same doctor who was surprised there was actually a reason to do the x-ray. She then told me that her radius was not in the right place and it could be the result of an injury prior to that day or from birth(which would be considered a birth defect). She told me she was going to send a referral to Orthopedics. Great, maybe someone there could give me a better idea of what is going on with my child. Next day, I get a phone call from Ashley's pediatrician he wants to see her. Long story short, we go through the same exact thing as the night before. But this time I took more x-rays home with me and Ronnie give them to Uncle Doug (as my kids so affectionately call him) and he took them to work and they looked over them there. Pretty much the same conclusion. I did finally get an appointment with Orthopedics, and we go in the morning to see what they say. This all happened between Wednesday and Thursday, so by Friday I was ready to get out of town. Our anniversary(12 years) and Elle's birthday(6 years old) are both on the 25th(which was Saturday) So to kill two birds with one stone we decided to go to Reno. We stayed at the Grand Sierra Resort, which was formerly the Hilton. We have stayed there many times, it is off the strip, it has a fun center downstairs and some shopping, and even a Starbucks. It is great, and the kids love it. We got there kind of late but went ahead and took the kids downstairs to the fun center. We finally got to bed around midnight, but I wasn't worried because I knew I could sleep in a little and then we were gonna go do some shopping(Steinmart!!) and take the kids to Circus Circus. I woke up the next morning around 8 am, I went to stretch a little and move my head, that is when I heard a "POP" and I felt a pain in my neck I can even describe. I couldn't move for almost 2 hours. I thought my neck was broke, it was awful. So when I could finally get up, I looked like robot. I'm sure I was a sight but my husband was so gracious and took care of the kids, they were all wondering what happened to their mom. I felt awful for ruining the rest of our trip but I had to get home and get something to ease the pain. I feel much better now, but I have a long week ahead of me. Elle still needs a birthday celebration, cake, and a shopping trip, so that is what we will be trying to do this week. She was so understanding, so I don't mind granting her wishes! Happy belated birthday Elle Belle!! And Happy belated Anniversary Babe! I love you!
