The Last Year of the Single Digits

Today is my Elle Belle's 9th birthday. Physically, she looks like a six year old, but don't let her smallness fool you, mentally, she's 16!

For those of us who know the "real" Elle, she is a joy! She is careful to preserve herself for those closest to her. However, if she loves you, she will love you for life!

Elle is an avid reader, loves to write and aspires to one day write a book. She loves music, has played the piano but is moving on to the violin. She has an appreciation for art and enjoys various forms of art, especially theatrics.

What is so special about this little princess is, she was born on our 6th wedding anniversary. Couldn't ask for a better gift! So there you have it! Today is also our anniversary :). (you can do the math, if you can't figure it out, ask your kids).

Thank you, Mary! She is sweet! Can't take credit for the couch, it belongs to the Old Spaghetti Factory :). And yes, I have used a couple of your devotionals (except I changed a few names to apply them to people we know, like in "Get a PICTURE!") We are working on loving others despite their appearance! Also, we've been reading in James, so "The Words of My Mouth" is perfect! You write true to life situations that kids need to hear!

An anniversary, a birthday and a birth defect??

You are probably wondering what that is all about. Right?? Well, on Wednesday, Ashley came running into the house crying, not screaming, just crying. She had tripped over Zoey's (our dog) leash and scraped her arm. Not a big deal, no blood. However, on closer examination, I noticed a lump on her elbow, as if her arm was out of socket. Strange, I never noticed that before and she wasn't screaming out in pain. So, being the worrisome mom that I am, I called the doctor. Of course they said bring her in. So off to Kaiser we go, first to be seen by a doctor(who wasn't even going to do an x-ray until I persisted), then to Radiology for x-rays, back to the same doctor who was surprised there was actually a reason to do the x-ray. She then told me that her radius was not in the right place and it could be the result of an injury prior to that day or from birth(which would be considered a birth defect). Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig!!!

We arrived home late Sunday night after what seemed like a year away from home. (Actually it was a little over three weeks.) We left on the 7th of August at about 4 pm and drove to Grants Pass. We stayed the night there, getting up the next morning and continuing on to Portland. We got to Portland about 3pm, spent the evening hanging out at my brother's house and getting ready for the next day. Saturday the 9th, we celebrated my littlest nephew, Judah Milo Carlson's first birthday. His actual birthday is the 14th but for sake of family and friends we had the party that Saturday. My brother's church family came and then some of his family and some of my sister in laws family came. We bar-b-qued and played games, but mostly just talked. Then the next day was church. We went to church with them, they go to the Gleason's church in Oregon City. They are very sweet people. I love Sis. Gleason, she always has the kindest words to say.
