School's out! Summer's here!!!

Ok, now on to the rest of my life! School's out, summer's here, time to relax. Yeah right! That is how it used to be. I remember when I was a kid( a long time ago), the day school got out until the day school started in September, it meant freedom. Freedom from schoolwork, from getting up early, going to bed early, from any rigorous schedule we had. Now it seems as if there is no break and no summer vacation. Every kids school schedule is different, year around, traditional, traditional with summer school, where is the break??? Well, we aren't going to follow the rigorous schedule all summer long, we are gonna have fun and sleep in if we want, or stay up late, or play outside all day, whatever we do, we are going to have a summer vacation.
So now that I've said that, does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions to make it a fun summer? I have a few ideas rolling around in this brain of mine, but I can use some more! My kids are pretty simple, they like to play outside, ride bikes, play in water, go to parks, spend time with friends, have picnics. It shouldn't be hard to please them. So what are some fun things you did as a kid? Did you have a memorable summer vacation?
Well, while your thinking, I have a funny Ashley story. Sunday mornings we march to give in the offering and then we head out for Sunday School( Thank God for Sunday School Teachers!!!). Well right before we were going out, Ashley said "Mommy, I have to go to the bafroom". So I told her we were getting ready to march and I'd take her on the way to Sunday School. So we get out there, I take Elle to her class and then Ashley to the bathroom. Finally we get to her class and I put her over the wall to go to her teacher, as I am signing her in, I over hear her tell her teacher " My mommy made me late!" And she is only two!

That story about Ashley is so hilarious I can picture her saying that in my head. Thank you I needed a good laugh. We used to go camping every year with my grandparents and then another thing was all of us kids would get to spend 2 weeks all by ourselves individually That was so exciting.

Scarlett, Isabelle, pack you bags! You're coming to your Auntie's house(or whatever I am)We will drink lots of coffee, and eat lots of popcorn and chocolate and stay up late. Then your mom can have you back before school starts to straighten you out. hehehe....

How about camping in your backyard, teaching them how to decorate cookies or make tortillas, make playdo, learn a new game, buy a water slide for the yard, library runs, have a watermelon spitting contest...okay you can see I am getting a little carried away! lol My summers as a kid were spent reading books - I have always been a book lover, but I am not sure that would work quite that well for a 2 year old!
Also, the local library usually offers a free summer program for different age groups that you can go with them to. My kids love it! HTHs!

Yvonne, thank you, those are great ideas. I forgot about the programs at the library, I use them during the school year. question? what does HTH stand for? am I really out of the loop or what?:) We did do the water slide thing and it last one whole day, it was pretty funny!

We should have a block party this summer! At YOUR house of course hehe! I remember playing ball with my dad a lot. Hopefully we'll get to do that with the kids this summer, when we're not studying BQ. Of course our summer is only about 6 weeks, but we'll enjoy it while we can!

What about taking all of your kids up to Oregon where a certain cousin of theirs would LOVE to keep them for a couple of weeks!?!?!?! I think that would be the best summer for them ever! Just a thought.... ;-)
