Monkey see, Monkey do....

Monkey was a handful at the eye doctor too! And by monkey, I mean Ashley Jean! I decided to make eye appointments for all 4 of my kids, on the same day. Thinking that if they saw each other getting their eyes examined, it would be easier for them. Well so much for doing my own thinking! First I must say, that I am a stickler about such things as the doctor visits, (i.e. well baby visits, annual shots etc)and the check-ups at the dentist every 6 months. But I forgot all about how important eye health is. Being nearsighted myself since I was 15, you would think I would be on top of this. So anyhow, thankfully I didn't wait too long, they are all healthy. But the routine appointment turned into a comedy act with a solo comedian! Levi, Myles, and Elle did very well with their exam, they were very polite and did exactly as they were told. Well then we got to Ashley. Keep in mind Ashley is only 2 but talks very well, so they begin her test with some letters(sorry folks, but I haven't gotten that far with her education). She looks and says "abcdef...." and begins to sing the alphabet. The lady then realized that she wasn't quite to that level yet. So she showed her two pictures, both of the same car but one had wheels that was a complete circle, the other ones wheels were not. We covered one eye and she began to determine which one had the "broken wheels". Well this went well for a second until we realized she was only pointing to whatever picture was on her right. And she changed to the left. Then we figured out that when she covered her right eye, the "broken wheels" were on the left and visa versa, get the idea? Then off to see the doctor, for the real exam. She was pretty good for the most part (of course she was sitting on my lap and couldn't go anywhere)until it got to the picture part. There was a picture of a bike, and bird, an umbrella, a birthday cake, bananas, and an apple. The doctor asks her "what do you see?" And she promptly replied "Toys", I knew we were going nowhere fast. Then the doctor looked in her eyes with a few different lights, and then had her cover her eyes again with a large spoon-like object. Well this turned into a game of peek-a-boo. To distract her, the doctor started asking her questions, by question #3 my kids lost it. Doctor asked "What color eyes do you have?" Ashley replied "Green and Red!" Apparently proud of herself, she then declared "I'm done." The doctor encouraged me to wait another year before scheduling her another appointment. Hummm...I wonder why?

Hahaha. I know the feeling. We had to do Jacob at 1 year and 2 year and now he doesn't have to be done till 5. But because of being a micro preemie they can have serious eye health so he has already been to 2 and in January we get to go again. Did they dialate any of their eyes? That is awful they did Jacob to take these deep xray type pictures of his eyes. Anyways I know the feelings.

Never a dull moment with Ashley Jean around...I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I guess it depends on the situation. LOL An eye doctor appointment? Obviously NOT a good thing. ROFL

That is so funny! They say the baby of the family is usually the clown or comedian. Obviously true in the case of Ashley (and Denae). And the older kids always make it worse as the laughter just encourages the funniness. I think waiting a year (or two) isn't such a bad idea. They can do routine screening at the pediatrician that will catch most problems that might need a referral to an eye dr. That's what happened when Delaney was 4.

Melissa, you are right about the baby and the older kids encourages them! adds fuel to their fire! I actually made my kids that appointment because of what happened with Delaney, I thought it would be best to know now what was going on in their eyes. Besides Delaney looks so cute in her trendy little glasses, maybe one of my kids would need some!
Yvonne~I have lots of pictures to prove it too!
Stacie~you know very well how things go around here with Ashley, and if you were there you would have been laughing right along with the others, and saying "I'm sorry Kim, how can you not laugh?"
