"Here comes the joy!"

This past year has been, well, let's just say interesting. Ok, interesting doesn't really sum it up, but I don't want to unload on you all. We are in revival right now, with Bro. and Sis. Wells (think that is the right spelling) and we've had some incredible services. There is never a dull service at The Rock Church though, but somehow it has been different. The only way I can describe it is to say it feels like the "old" Rock Church. Some may understand that, others will wonder. Tonight was no exception, the presence of God moved in a beautiful way. Towards the end of the service, I sat there thinking, "I don't want to move or leave this atmosphere." Though we've been wounded, as a body we are still united and standing, and God is moving in our midst. While still sitting there, a song came to me that our pastor and a few of the men used to sing, and all I can remember of the words is "It looks like I can feel the breaking of day, oh the...

Wolves, and an old, wise Indian

Image
The Two Wolves One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that  Goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace , love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The grandson thought about it for a minute And then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?' The old Cherokee simply replied,   ' The one you feed  .'

Novice Tournament 2010

Image
Today we had our Novice Tournament, at our church, for bible quizzing. For those you who are not familiar with bible quizzing, the Novice tournament is for the novice quizzers in the junior and beginner division. This is only within our church. We had five teams, each with two quizzers, except one team had three quizzers. They all did a fabulous job, and ultimately our church won! My little Elle~Belle was on Jacob Bolding's team and they took first place!! I am one proud momma! The individual trophies went to Jacob Bolding at first place, Booker Lewis in second place, Elle Marquez in third, Winston Jones in fourth, and Kristina Ezell in fifth. Jacob and Elle's team went undefeated and in one quiz they both quizzed out! Yay!! For Jacob and Elle and all our awesome bible quizzers, this is going to be a terrific year!

Princess La Nae and Fairy Princess Ashley (I think?)

Image
I thought this picture was pretty funny but what happened prior to the picture was even more funny. Ashley got this tutu from Clayton and Sarah for Christmas, as well as the wand. She already had the tiara and wings, so she decided to dress up. So of course, La Nae, wanted to dress up too. She wanted to wear a tutu also, so Ashley showed her the other one we have, she wasn't satisfied. She wanted the one Ashley was wearing. Well Ashley was not easily swayed, even with the bribe of candy. After a few minutes, I heard La Nae starting to get real upset. Ashley  went and got the Cinderella dress and told her, "could you just wear this and be a princess?" I laughed and then I realized La Nae wasn't falling for it. So I told her she was a beautiful princess and I needed a picture of her and Ashley. She finally agreed as long as she could wear the sunglasses! (According to Ashley, princesses don't wear sunglasses, I told her this princess could wear them if she wanted to...

The Year in Review

Image
As this year draws to a close, and we embarked on another new year, another decade in fact, I thought I would go back and review the year for my readers. However, there is a problem, I can't remember every cool thing that happened. Or a least I can't remember them in order! Do you ever get get the holiday letters with your Christmas cards? The ones that go over the entire year and highlight all the important events? I love them and dislike them all at the same time. I love them because they're great memory keepers, but I dislike them because I CAN"T DO THAT!!! I can't remember! LOL! It's awful. Even my kids make comments. For example, I said, "Remember back in July we went to such and such place and it was pouring down rain and we got soaked just trying to get to the car?" And my kids look at me with this odd expression and Levi pipes up and says, "Mom, it doesn't usually rain in July around here, I think that was earlier this year." Oh ...

Merry Christmas from the Marquez Clan

Image
The Christmas morning madness has faded into the Christmas afternoon lull. Wrapping paper that once flew through the air is now crumbled and in the garbage. New toys are scattered throughout the house. Dinner is cooking, family will be coming. Then I realize just how quiet it is. I think to myself, "the kids must really being enjoying their gifts." I decide to investigate, girls room first. Yes, they are playing so quietly with their new toys. Then I am off to the boys' room. Huh? No boys? Where are they? They must be outside with their new basketball or football. Outside this is what I found, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn!

In Everything Give Him Praise!

For those of you who know my little Ashley Jean then this will mean something to you. Ashley is four and has beautiful blond hair that doesn't grow very fast. For a Pentecostal, this could be a challenge. I have worried, I have prayed, I have claimed long hair in Jesus name, but to no avail it doesn't grow. Sunday night I decided to curl Elle's (Ashley's big sister) hair. Guess who else wanted her hair curled? Yep, you guess it, Ashley! I've curled her hair before, very carefully but this was different, I was using hot sticks on Elle's hair. Do you think I was going to get by not using hot sticks? Uh, think again! So I set out to make Ashley's wish possible and low and behold they stayed in her hair. I couldn't believe it! I took a picture of the curlers in her hair for proof and one with her daddy when they were out. Now I am giving God the glory, because her hair is growing! This is just the beginning of many wonderful years doing her hair.
