Violin Concert and a Trip to the ER

Friday evening was magical. Saturday evening was miserable. But I will start with Friday, Elle's violin concert. This was her first time on stage AND she memorized six songs. They did not use sheet music at all! She took piano lessons for nearly two years, so she is familiar with music/chords/notes/keys, but she wanted to learn violin. In October of 2010, yes, only 5 months ago, I signed her up with Voices of Performing Arts. For such a brief time playing, she is doing incredible. I believe when you have a passion for an instrument you will succeed. Or for anything, for that matter! Here are a few pictures from her debut:

See her name? Under the Beginning Strings :)

Practice just before heading on stage

A little far away, sorry. Elle is on bottom, right, next to Cello player

Bummer, she lifted her violin too high, couldn't get her face!

We are proud of Elle!!

So Saturday, Miss Ashley, not to be outdone by her sister, decides to fracture her ankle. This of course, does not happen during normal business hours. No, it happens at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday night. I used to say that everything that is going to happen (i.e. sickness, broken arms, etc) will happen on Saturday night. Why, you ask? Because there is church the next day! This is no exception! Ashley decides to run (when does she not run??) down the hall. Apparently, someone decided to place an empty laundry basket in her way, how dare they! And she trips, hears a *POP* and screams! We put ice on it, elevate it and pray it is just a sprained ankle. Pain increases, she can't put any weight on it, so off to ER we go! Three hours and a really cool ride on a gurney around the ER, later, and she is diagnosed with a Fibular Fracture classified as a Salter-Harris 1. It is a fracture right through the growth plate. Fortunately, we are told that it will heal just fine without lasting affects. I called her doctor this morning and now we are waiting for a call from the orthopedic doctor to place her leg in a full cast. Here are some pictures from that eventful night:

All done! She was a trooper!

OMW!!! :0

1st - Way to go Elle! I can relate. It's a wonderful feeling having kids who love music. Encourage her to never stop, even if she has days she wants to. She will thank you in the future. :-)

2nd - Poor little Ashley! Hope she doesn't have too much pain and that she heals quickly.

Never a dull moment, eh? ;-)
